Across the river clouds hang on the mountain You stare at the sky It's probably going to snow again You are staying by yourself at your Uncle's second home in White Salmon, Washington Another Christmas all alone Another Christmas all alone It's only been two days so far there is something about this weather that sets you off You head into town and spend the whole day Watching the Seahawks game on an outdoor TV at the Elks Lodge Then you go stop by the liquor store for another fifth of Gin You need something to pass the time You need something to pass the time You fall asleep on the bathroom floor When you wake up everything outside is covered in snow Out the window you can barely see across the road You try to count the trees just to pass the time At night you go downtown again a sign in the middle of town says Season's Greetings Season's Greetings from White Salmon Season's Greetings from White Salmon The next morning when you wake up you wrap yourself in two blankets and eat breakfast off a paper plate You look at your phone no missed calls no text messages nothing at all Later that night you wander into town again and drink by yourself alone at the bar Season's Greetings from White Salmon Season's Greetings from White Salmon...

I'm OK Are you OK? You go for a walk around lunchtime I can see from my window The sky seems really close right now as you walk past the cemetery There on your right is the highway You walk a little farther and now on your right is the fire station You keep going up the hill toward the park Everything now covered in white There on the side of the road is a skull in the snow There is a skull in the snow and you turn away There on the side of the road there is a skull in the snow and you, you turn away you turn away I'm OK Are you OK? Here, here is a feeling This is nostalgic The way the tree touches the sky Oh the air in your lungs in winter when you breathe it feels just like that dream You go for a walk again at night past the house all covered in Christmas lights There is Santa Claus sitting deflated on the roof Look down there is a skull in the snow Look down there is a skull in the snow and you turn away

It's coming down heavy now it's sticking to the street you feel it in your bones you feel it out at the edge of the city out by the railroad tracks where the trees drop down the hill I'm sitting in a bar just counting the photos on the back glass It's coming down even harder now Walk along the railroad tracks Oh you'll never see the end of the line I cover up my ears I can't hear anything The wind whistles through the trees and on to me I'm holding on to nothing I'm letting go of your dreams Oh the street lights capture me in silhouette I'm walking quickly now I'm walking quickly now past the cemetery gravestones for people who died 100 years ago Oh you will never see the end of the line Oh you will never see the end of the line Here is that thought again Oh you will never Oh you will never see the end of the line Oh you will never Oh you will never see you will never see the end of the line

Dreams of the old world in your head they will take you places you don't know Dreams of the old world in your head There are two truths that you are aware of that you are aware of Dreams of the old world in your head but you only see the way the snow melts at night you didn't see it fall during the day Dreams of the old world in your head you close the window you close the window you don't want to let too much light in That night you walked downtown and there was no one out Dreams of the old world in your head Dreams of the old world in your head You only see the snow at night when it melts Oh believe me you can believe me there is nothing here You walk through someone's back yard to look out at the river and the old world goes away

Loser, Saint 05:18
The wind it moves across the river all the way into your hair There is snow on the streets now there is something in the air I look out my window sometime around 3 a.m. There is nothing happening There is nothing there Oh but if you could see me right now I'm just like the sun I'm not really here I put on my snow boots and walk up to the hills I see the sun shining I see it in the air Oh and if you could see me right now I'm just like the wind I'm not really here Back in the day You said I was both a loser and saint On that's what she said a loser and a saint Oh and if you could see me right now you 'd have your own sense of what I'm getting at The last time I saw you was almost 10 years ago Oh but if you could see me right now you'd say 10 years is not even long enough I made it through the last bottle of second rate gin oh the ceiling is spinning but maybe that is the ceiling fan I forgot to turn the heating on Oh and maybe if you where with me right now you'd tell me this cold is not really here

Oh you know it was always going to go that way You had such a shit eating grin on your face and I tried not to read too much into it We crossed the bridge late at night It has always been one lane each way I saw it coming from the other side of the road I am parked at that bar right off the highway Oh if you look up at the stars tonight you will see me and I'll see you too We just stood there looking at the water watching it move We just stood there watching the water watching it move I keep waiting to make a decision and I know you do too

about

Here is an album about White Salmon, Washington. About the clouds hanging on the mountains and trees blocking the full view of the Columbia River. Nostalgia and loneliness. Everything covered in snow. Watching a Seahawks game on an outdoor TV at the Elks Lodge. Drinking alone and then walking around an empty town late at night. Santa Claus deflated on a neighbors roof. Hello Everybody - Look at the Christmas lights and spin around. 11 sad dream folk songs somewhere out at the edge of the city by the railroad tracks. Sitting at a bar watching the snow come down harder. Both a loser and a saint. Hold on to nothing but your dreams. Watch the water. B.P.O.E. 1868. There is a skull in the snow. I am a place that holds this light. It is beautiful. It is beautiful.
